Video Tutorial: Adding Drama to a Boring Sky

Posted 4 months, 7 days ago by Graffi | | 437 views | Technorati

Anothertechnique I found while surfing around, trying to find new ways of sprucing up some of my vacation photos from this summer.

This one is a snap of an old church in Boston (right around the corner from the original Cheers, if you’re interested) and the hazy sky didn’t really do much for it. The technique here really makes the blue pop out of the haze, and adds a bit of depth and contrast to the shadow areas.

*Note that it requires Handy Actions 3, or an action that will select just the highlights of your image and place them on a new layer.

The image to the right is split, with the original photo showing on the left and the effect showing to the right. Check out those rich blue Boston skies!

I would love to check out this tutorial, but the font in the bubble is not readable. Is there any way you could redo the font? Thanks.

Hi, Sonesta - click the text link instead of the video camera above, and it will take you to a larger full-screen version. That’ll make the font a bit larger -

I’m sorry Graffi…I did that and it still looks like a foreign language. I can’t make out most of the words. Do you have any other suggestions? I would really like to do it and I just purchased the Handy Actions 3 so I’m eager to try it. Thanks.

ah, I see what the problem might be - it’s not showing full size. Open the text link above - that will open the video in a new window (rather than the inline screened window) - right-click the video and choose “Show All” - that will scale it. You can also choose Zoom In -

another option is to right-click the text link above and choose “Save Target”. Save it to your desktop. Then you can watch it at full size with the standard Flash player (it should just open when you doulble-click it).

Other than that, I’m at a loss - the font is standard old Arial!
